Background
Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division, commonly known as IMED, is the central and apex organization of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh for monitoring and evaluation of the public sector development projects included in the Annual Development Program (ADP). As per ‘Allocation of Business among the Different Ministries/Divisions’, the IMED also deals with the matters relating to Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) and The Public Procurement Regulations, 2003. The CPTU of IMED acts as a central organ of the government for policy formulation, coordination, monitoring and improvement of the public procurement process in Bangladesh.

 

The IMED was first established in January 1975, named as 'ProjectImplementation Bureau (PIB)' and placed under the PresidentSecretariat. In late 1975, the PIB was transferred to Ministry ofPlanning. It was given the status of a separate division in 1977. Itwas renamed as Implementation Monitoring and Evaluation Division (IMED)in 1982. Now it is one of the two Divisions of the Ministry ofPlanning. The other Division is Planning Division.


The IMED provides support to all Ministries/Divisions on projectimplementation through a structured way of collecting, compiling andanalyzing project information in its central MIS and feed back theMinistriy/Division on problems and bottlenecks of projects duringimplementation. It also reports the progress of implementation ofpublic sector development projects to the National Economic Council(NEC) and its Executive Committee (ECNEC) headed by the chief executiveof the country.
